Here’s how I usually work

  • Quick glance at the source document and terminology
  • Translation/Localisation starts – Translation report draft
  • Complex/Advanced researches
  • Spellchecker/Other checking tool scan
  • Detailed proofreading
  • Second quality check tasks (if time allows)
  • Formatting check (if necessary)
  • Translation report clean-out (query or comments, if applicable)
  • McAfee antivirus check with latest signatures
  • Send out translation/localisation work

My style (unless otherwise agreed)

  • Adapted to target audience (not literal translations provided)
  • No “word=word” translation
  • Not only correct translation: sounding as if written in French in the first place
  • Meaningfull in context and technically speaking
  • Translation reads naturally
  • Adapted to each project nature: advertisement, software, IT
  • help/documentation, news, company publication, etc. Each project may not be translated blindly just the same way.
